Pool Service and Resurfacing in Vero Beach

Vero Beach pools range from small older pools near downtown to large oceanfront pools on Orchid Island, many at seasonal homes.

A lot of Vero Beach pools belong to seasonal owners. That changes what service looks like. A pool that sits for weeks between visits in summer heat can turn green fast after a storm, and a pump that fails while nobody is home can leave it that way. Many owners here want a service that reports on each visit with photos and flags equipment problems early.

Oceanfront and lagoon pools

On Orchid Island, salt spray corrodes pumps, heaters, light niches, rails and enclosure hardware. Oceanfront pools may also sit seaward of the state Coastal Construction Control Line, where structural pool work and new decks can need state review in addition to local permits. Sand and salt blowing into the water also affects chemistry, so ask the service how they handle that.

Draining and the water table

Low lots near the lagoon and on former grove land west of town can have a high water table, especially in the summer wet season. An empty pool can lift or crack from groundwater pressure. Resurfacing and repairs that require draining should be planned by someone who checks for a pressure relief valve and picks the right time.

Permits and drainage

Resurfacing may or may not need a permit, but new pools, heaters, equipment with new electrical and enclosure work usually do. Inside city limits, ask the City of Vero Beach Building Department, and in unincorporated areas the Indian River County Building Division. Indian River Shores and Orchid have their own permitting. Florida's pool safety law requires barriers or other safety features for new residential pools. Do not drain chlorinated water into the lagoon, a canal or a storm drain, since the lagoon is already stressed. Ask about local rules on where to drain.

Fertilizer and algae

Indian River County limits nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer in the summer, partly to protect the lagoon. Runoff from lawns into pools still feeds algae after storms.

Pool service questions in Vero Beach

How do seasonal owners keep their Vero Beach pool in shape while away?

Many set up weekly service with a short report and photos after each visit, plus an extra visit after big storms. Ask the service to flag equipment problems right away, since a failed pump in summer turns a pool green within days. Some owners also add remote monitoring for the pump and chemistry.

Does pool work on an oceanfront Orchid Island lot need extra approvals?

It can. Oceanfront lots may be seaward of the state Coastal Construction Control Line, where structural changes, new decks and some equipment can need state review on top of local permits. Indian River Shores and Orchid issue their own local permits. Ask the contractor to check your lot before quoting major work.

Is it safe to drain my pool in Vero Beach?

With planning, often yes. Many lots near the lagoon and on low mainland ground have a high water table, and an empty pool can lift or crack. Contractors check for a relief valve and avoid draining at the wettest times of year. Ask how they will manage groundwater before you agree to drain.

Where can I drain pool water at my Vero Beach home?

Avoid sending chlorinated pool water into the Indian River Lagoon, a canal or a storm drain. Many owners let chlorine levels drop and then drain slowly onto their own lawn. Your HOA and the city or county may have rules. Ask the pool service and check with the local office before draining.
