Fort Pierce has a wide range of surfaces: wood siding on older frame homes, old brick and stucco downtown, concrete driveways and walkways, wood docks and decks along the river, and condo walkways on Hutchinson Island. The right method depends a lot on what you're cleaning and how old it is.

Older homes and soft surfaces

Old wood siding, wood porches and soft brick can be damaged by high pressure. It can raise wood grain, push water behind siding, and wear away mortar. Most older surfaces are cleaned with low pressure and a cleaning solution instead. That matters even more in homes built before 1978, where old paint may contain lead. Blasting old paint off puts chips and dust in the yard. If paint is peeling, cleaning may need to be handled under lead safe rules, or be part of a painting job. See painting in Fort Pierce.

Salt film near the water

On Hutchinson Island, along Indian River Drive and near the inlet, salt spray leaves a dull film on windows, railings and walls, and it helps mildew grow. Regular gentle rinsing with fresh water does a lot. Salt left on metal railings and fixtures speeds up rust, so ask the business to rinse those well.

Runoff to the lagoon

Much of Fort Pierce drains straight to the Indian River Lagoon. Whatever washes off a driveway, deck or dock can end up in the water. Ask the business what cleaning products they use, and how they keep runoff out of storm drains and away from the shoreline. Dock cleaning over the water needs extra care for that reason.

Condos and associations

In Hutchinson Island condos, building exteriors, walkways and parking areas are usually the association's job. Owners may only be allowed to clean their own balcony, and some buildings have rules about what can be used there. Check with management.

Fences often need cleaning before repair or staining, see fencing in Fort Pierce. General information on surfaces and methods is on the pressure washing page, and the city overview is on the Fort Pierce area page.

Check before you hireFlorida doesn't issue a state license for pressure washing, so ask for proof of liability insurance and the local business tax receipt. Roof cleaning requests are not taken through this site.

Pressure washing questions in Fort Pierce

Is it safe to pressure wash my older Fort Pierce house?

With the right method, usually. Older wood siding, porches and soft brick are better cleaned with low pressure and a cleaning solution. High pressure can damage the surface and push water into walls. If the house was built before 1978 and the paint is peeling, ask about lead safe practices before anyone washes it.

How do I get salt film off my windows and railings near the beach?

Regular rinsing with fresh water and a gentle cleaner usually does it. Salt builds up fast on Hutchinson Island and near the inlet, and left alone it speeds up rust on metal railings and fixtures. A business can clean the exterior, but frequent light rinsing between cleanings makes the biggest difference.

Can my dock on the lagoon be pressure washed?

Often, yes, but with care. Wood decking can be damaged by high pressure, and anything washed off goes into the Indian River Lagoon or Taylor Creek. Ask the business what products they use over the water and how they control runoff. Some owners use only water and a brush on docks for that reason.

Do you take roof cleaning requests in Fort Pierce?

No. We pass along requests for driveways, walls, walkways, decks, docks, pool decks and fences only. We don't take roof cleaning requests. If you need roof cleaning, you'll need to find that service separately, and you can still send us the rest of the job.
